These are our very first Highland cows! We got them from a family who live just outside of Swift Current, which worked out perfectly since this is a breed we’ve been wanting for years. We’ve actually known them for almost six months now—ever since they brought a livestock trailer into my father’s workplace for repairs.
While they were chatting with my dad about the trailer, the conversation drifted to livestock. My dad mentioned that we were hoping our kunekune pigs would have piglets soon, and then they said they’d been looking for kunekunes themselves. Then they casually mentioned that they had Highland cows. That’s when my dad told them we’d been searching for Highlands ever since we moved to Saskatchewan and room to put them.
The cows already had names when we got them, courtesy of their original owners. They also came tagged, which wouldn’t have been our first choice, but it’s not that big of a deal. What matters is that they’re finally here, and we couldn’t be happier to have them.
PS: The arrow is pointing to Nugget
PPS: The sheep is named Caspian
